Lucas Morel is professor of politics at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and an Adjunct Fellow of the Ashbrook Center. Dr. Morel holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Claremont Graduate School and is a member of the scholarly advisory committee of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. He is the author of Lincoln’s Sacred Effort: Defining Religion’s Role in American Self-Government and editor of Ralph Ellison and the Raft of Hope: A Political Companion to "Invisible Man" (2004). His articles have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Christian Science Monitor, First Things, and the Columbus Dispatch, and he has been a guest commentator on CNN’s TalkBack Live and New Hampshire, Virginia, and Wisconsin Public Radio.
